The Secret to Business Growth is in the Implementation

Millions of small business owners around the world wake up every day trying to improve their businesses. They start looking for solutions and entrepreneurial growth strategies to make it better. Very often they look around and seek out courses, seminars, webinars, workshops, master’s degrees, business couching, etc. in order to get the knowledge, and the tools they need to help their businesses perform better. I believe there is a major flaw in this approach.

Why Business Owners Need to be Chief Salesperson

During my years of working directly with small businesses, talking with entrepreneurs day in and day out, participating in forums and seminars, and joining small business and entrepreneur’s associations, it has become increasingly apparent to me how important it is for the business owner to play an integral part in the sales function of their business. In a recent survey with more than 800 small business owners around the globe, a recurring pattern emerged. The companies whose owners were highly involved in sales activity had almost twice the growth of those where the owners were not as involved.

Why Don’t Most Small Businesses Thrive?

During my years of working directly with small businesses, talking with entrepreneurs day in and day out, speaking in forums and seminars, joining small business and entrepreneurs associations, etc., I have noticed three factors that make any small business thrive. Contrary to what you might believe, it has nothing to do with the academic or business background of the owner. It has also nothing to do with the type of industry or geographical location the business is in. Most of the time it has nothing to with the quality of your product or service.

Liberate yourself from your business… with process

As business owners, we often hear about the importance of implementing processes and systems in our business to create a standardized, professional company that is not dependent on the owner or specific key people. However, for many small businesses, the question of how to effectively implement processes is very real and challenging. Actually it can be like a black hole – most small business owners have some idea of how to implement a process and what it entails, but when they actually start to apply it in their companies, they get only frustration, or at best, good results in the short-term and long-term disappointment.

(For our Spanish speaking readers, from our Latin American expert…)
